Look straight ahead. Hold a ruler level in front of your face and measure the straight distance between your temples, at the sides of your eyes. Ask someone to help you read it.

Note the result in mm. Repeat once. Measure straight across, not around your face.

Use your measurement as a starting point when comparing the frame’s overall width, where provided. A size such as 55 mm usually describes one lens—not the full frame.
